Bergholz museum open Sunday
BERGHOLZ -- The Bergholz Area Museum, located next to the Bergholz Diner at 268 Second St. in Bergholz, will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Memorabilia of the Wolf Run community will be the featured display.
The museum's permanent collection features information and items related to area communities, schools, businesses and mines, according to officials. The museum has an extensive collection of Springfield High School memorabilia as well. Admission is free.
Springfield township meeting set
BERGHOLZ -- There will be a meeting of the Springfield township at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting will take place at 722 Monroe St. in Bergholz.
Roundtable to meet, Monday
WHEELING -- The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium in Wheeling.
Roundtable member Roger Micker explained the presentation will focus on Gen. George McClellan, the new commander of the Army of the Potomac during 1861. Four days following an embarrassing defeat to Confederate troops at Manassas Junction, President Abraham Lincoln appointed McClellan as commander.
"With a force of 150,000 troops in Washington, D.C., the Union was expecting an immediate end to the Civil War by forcing a Confederate surrender at Richmond," Micker said.
The first of a two-part presentation on the peninsular campaign by Micker, will be delivered at the event.
The presentation is open to the public and free of charge. Individuals who have an interest in Civil War history are welcome to become a member of the roundtable.

SHS alumni to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville High School Alumni Association will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Scaffidi's Restaurant and Tavern.
GFWC's day of service
WINTERSVILLE -- The General Federation of Women's Clubs, Wintersville Women's Club, will be doing a drive-thru for its National Day of Service Sept. 30.
The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Wintersville Methodist Church, located at 702 Main St.
The club will be collecting food for school food pantries, according to organizers.
Items suggested include, granola bars, mac and cheese cups, cup of noodles, Chef Boy-ar-Dee ravioli, oatmeal cups, fruit cups, pudding cups and Dinty Moore meals.
Hannah's House to hold luncheon
STEUBENVILLE -- Hannah's House of Grace, a local nonprofit group providing transitional housing for women in Steubenville, will hold a women's luncheon at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Sycamore Center.
The theme will be "A Woman of Worth: Women Empowering Women."
The group's founder, Toni Hubbard, said she started the organization to help women overcome the challenge of finding safe housing and a support system when they leave jail or a drug rehab facility.
This is the group's second event this year, as they strive to bring awareness to the challenges women face upon leaving rehab or incarceration.
Featured speakers are the Rev. Buena Dudley, Evangelist Clarissa Speaker and the Rev. Toni Hubbard.

Foster parent training offered
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Department of Job and Family Services, Children Services Division, will offer pre-placement training sessions for people interested in becoming foster parents or foster-to-adopt parents.
The first half of the pre-placement sessions will be held on Oct. 14-15. The remaining sessions will be held Oct. 21-22. The classes will be held at the Schiappa Memorial Library, located at 4141 Mall Drive. Training sessions are offered at no cost to the public and there is no obligation.
The agency encourages people who may have an interest in the program to attend pre-service to see what it is about.
Foster homes are needed for children of all ages, from birth to age 18.

Gospel meeting planned
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Heights Church of Christ will hold a gospel meeting Oct. 15-20.
The speaker will be Roger Rush and will take place at the church, located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave.
