Susan Beamer, a member of the Disciples Women group at the First Christian Church of Weirton, designed and constructed the yearly banner for its annual retreat. The event was held Sept. 8-11 in Ripley, W.Va. Beamer embroidered squares with Bible verses illustrating the theme, “Never Alone,” in support of the group’s support of domestic violence victims. The banner was well-received at the retreat, with local groups stating they are “very proud of her beautiful work.” There were 84 women from throughout the region who helped by contributing to the largest gathering of Disciples Women in the U.S. and Canada. Local members taking part included from left, Beamer, Karen Blanc and Connie Norwood. All women are welcome to attend the next local Disciples Women meeting, scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the First Christian Church in Weirton. The church is under the direction of the Rev. Mark Mayer.
