Weir High Class of 1970 to meet
WEIRTON -- Members of Weir High School's Class of 1970 will hold its next class dinner at 6 p.m. today at the Route 22 Sports Bar. All classmates, spouses and guests are invited to attend.
Art association to hold open studios
WEIRTON -- The Steubenville Art Association will hold an open studio from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Summit Gallery, located at 3539 Main St. A plein-air class will follow.
The open studio will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the gallery and will be led by SAA member and West Virginia Arts Council studio proctor Gina Judy. No reservations are needed to attend. Members and non-members may attend. There is a $5 donation being asked for, according to officials.
UMWA to meet
HOPEDALE -- The United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1304 will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hopedale American Legion, located 48225 Rabbit Road in Hopedale. A meeting will follow at 10 a.m. at the Legion.
Church to hold movie night
STEUBENVILLE -- Buena Vista United Methodist Church, located at 3801 Schenley Ave., will hold a movie night at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church.
This will be a family movie and is scheduled to take place outdoors, weather permitting. The film will be shown indoors, otherwise.
Those attending can bring snacks to eat during the movie, organizer noted.
Pastor to be celebrated
WEIRTON -- The Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 3124 Weir Ave., will celebrate its Pastor, the Rev. James E. Brown, as he celebrates his fifth anniversary with the church.
The ceremony will take place beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Claude Flowers serving as guest minister.
The Rev. Rudy McAllister of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Weirton, along with his congregation, will be guests at 2:30 p.m. Rodman Street Baptist Choir of Pittsburgh will render the music. The community is invited to attend.
School board to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at its office, located at 1201 Pleasant Ave.
Story hour to have special guest
WELLSBURG -- Nick Gardner, director of the Mary F. Shipper Library, will lead an evening story hour centered around fossils beginning at 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Brooke County Library.

Church Women United to meet
WEIRTON -- Church Women United will hold a planning session at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Dunbar Center in Weirton. Members are asked to attend if their calendar permits.
Library to show Halloween film
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show "Hocus Pocus 2," rated PG, at noon Oct. 13.
The event is free to the public and will be streamed to viewers at the library through an arrangement between Disney+ and Swank Motion Pictures.
