St. Joseph's Eucharistic retreat
WEIRTON -- St. Joseph the Worker Parish will hold its Women's Eucharistic Retreat Nov. 4. Those wanting to register must do so by Monday, by calling the parish's rectory at (304) 723-2054.
Attendees will register at the retreat beginning at 8:30 a.m., organizers stated. The retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The cost is $15, which will be waived upon request, officials noted.
The event's guest speakers will be Peter Thomas Burson, order of preachers at the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist; and Tom Octave, director of lay ministry for the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Smithfield Veteran's Day program
STEUBENVILLE--The Jefferson County Veteran's Association will hold a Veteran's Day program at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the memorial wall at Friendship Park in Smithfield.
Former Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Graham, will perform the national anthem and closing number, according to organizers.
Adjutant Barry Bardone will present firsthand experiences of Iwo Jima, D-Day and Vietnam veterans. A 21-gun salute will close out the program.
Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair. Refreshments will be served.
In case of inclement weather, the program will take place inside the 4-H building.
Retired teachers to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Retired Teachers will meet for its final meeting of the year at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Starkdale Presbyterian Church, located at 4600 Sunset Blvd.
June Logan, ORTA liaison, will be in attendance, providing updates. Logan will install officers for 2024-25, according to officials. A local high school choir will provide the entertainment.
Reservations are due to Ann Wiley by Nov. 4.
Members are asked to consider donating to the pension defense fund and to bring personal items for local teenagers to the meeting.
The items will go toward helping the Urban Mission.
Kiwanis Club looks for new members
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Kiwanis Club, a club of volunteers in service to the local area since 1922, has focused this past year on inviting more community members to join them in the mission of serving the children locally and globally.
The club, led by past President Cookie West, added nine new members to its ranks, according to officials.
In terms of service, each Kiwanis member impacts 106 children every year and each hour of service has an economic impact approximately worth $43,500, Vice President Tom Timmons explained.
As part of the Ohio District's 193 Kiwanis Clubs, Steubenville ranked in the top seven by new members added and in the top 14 by percentage change.
Any adult is welcome to join the club, where they can be a part of a group of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time," Timmons said.
Each club works on local projects where members can hone their leadership skills and join in on service that speaks to their own interests.

Vally's Got Talent event
STEUBENVILLE -- The Valley's Got Talent competition will return once again this year, according to its host, the Ohio Valley Youth Network and Sycamore Youth Center.
The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19 inside Steubenville High School.
Last year, approximately 850 people attended the show.
The purpose is to amplify inspirational voices and recognize local talent in the form of instrumentals, dance, vocals, group song and more, according to officials.
Last year's acts included singers, bands, dancers and mime artists. The overall winner was Jay Stoneman of Carrollton, who performed "How Great Thou Art" on the piano.
All talents perform to the glory of God, according to Ohio Youth Network President and Sycamore Executive Director Bobbyjon Bauman.
"We award prizes of $500 to the grand-prize winner," Bauman said. "We award $100 to the first-place contestant in each category, and $25 to the second-place contestant in each category."

There will be $1,250 in cash prizes, officials said.
The contest is for those between the ages of 13 and 23. Bands, soloists and performers may have people over the age of 23 performing in the background, but the judging will be for those between the event's age ranges.
Contestants must live within 35 mile of Steubenville. Songs must have inspirational and Christian content, officials stated.

PERI holds October meeting
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc.'s Jefferson County Chapter met in the Fiesta Room of Froehlich's Classic Corner, Oct. 11.
Co-President Terry Jennings reviewed highlights of the annual meeting held in Columbus.
She reviewed information regarding this month's Indigenous Peoples Day and the Pink Ribbon Campaign for breast cancer awareness.
The 50/50 winner was Eileen Warfield.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 8 at Froehlich's Classic Corner.
