STEUBENVILLE -- The Philoptochos Society at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church has been busy making plans for several upcoming community events.
Throughout October, the society has been collecting new socks, of any size and style. All donations will be given to the Martha Manor Women's Home and the Friendship Room. Sock donations will be accepted through Nov. 5 and can be dropped off at the church, located at 300 S. Third St.
Society officials stated the group's monthly meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Social Hall. Dinner will be served that evening, as well.
It is almost time once again for the church's monthly gyro sale.
Officials stated the society will be selling the following items from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church: Gyros will be sold for $9 each; grape leaves, three for $3.50; baklava, $3; tyropita, $3.50; melamakarona, $2.50; almond crescent cookies, $2; and koulourakia, one dozen for $8. Allow a minimum of 20 minutes for all orders. There will be free delivery on all orders of four or more gyros to businesses and parishoners only, according to organizers.
In the works is a Veteran's Day luncheon, to be held at noon on Nov. 9 at Hellenic Hall, located at 300 S. Fourth St. The event is free and honors all area veterans, according to organizers. Officials ask to RSVP by Nov. 3 by calling the church at (740) 282-9835.
The Philoptochos Society is welcoming Grammy Pammy's Sweetery to the church at 6 p.m. Nov. 14. This is a cookie decoration class where attendees will learn how to decorate fancy cookies for Christmas, officials stated. Those taking the class will learn step-by-step instructions on how to decorate "adorable sets designed by 6B Creations."
The cost is $55 per person. Those taking part will receive step-by-step practice and cookie decorating instructions; six cookies with coordinating royal icing and decorating embellishments; cookie and icing tips and tricks; drawings throughout the class; and cookie box to take home the creations.
For questions, call (740) 317-6785. The church will be hosting Glendi in the Ville at 8 p.m. Nov. 24.
The Greek Company Orchestra will be playing live. All area residents are asked to, "come and get your Greek dance on and enjoy," officials said.
The cost for pre-sale tickets is $25. Tickets will be sold for $35 at the door. There will be a cash bar and mezedes. All ages are welcome to attend.
