TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors welcomed two guests to its Sept. 22 meeting. Liz Cook and Anne Butera were among those who attended the monthly meeting at Karaffa Recreation Center.
President Barbara Pritts called the meeting to order, asking for a moment of silence in memory of member Vicki Miller.
Pritts re-introduced the new members, along with those who have been absent for a while.
Chaplain Gloria Boley provided the blessing prior to a pizza party meal.
Following dinner, the kitchen committee composed of Carol Rogers, Bonnie Wilson and Dorothy Pavelka were thanked for their hard work and table decorations.
Members recited the pledge of allegiance, after which Secretary Laura Sheets read the minutes and conducted roll call.
Rogers gave the financial report which was filed for audit. Social Secretary Marlene Garrett announced September birthdays and those on the October kitchen committee, who include Alex Anderson, Beverly Anderson, Judy Whyte and Elaine Briceland.
Two members were remembered under the health report, for which cards will be sent.
Pritts read a letter from the Toys for Toronto committee requesting financial help.
The group agreed to make a donation to the cause. Pritts reminded everyone that dues for 2023-24 year will be collected during October.
Halloween plans for the Oct. 27 meeting include a mask contest and prizes to be awarded include best homemade mask, ugliest mask and most beautiful mask.
Pritts provided an update on the Hartville flea market trip, citing there are still bus seats available for anyone wanting to go on the Oct. 20 trip.
Attendees will be given lunch at the Hartville kitchen, and a stop at the McKinley Presidential Museum will conclude the day.

The bus is filled for the Nov. 17 trip to Amish Country. Those attending will enjoy dinner at the Farmstead restaurant and see the show "Christmas in the Country."
Hank Sheets was recognized as member of the month and presented with a small gift.
The activity for the evening was a team travel game in which members had to identify the city and state where a specific point of interest is located.
Winning team members were presented with a free round of bingo.
The evening concluded with brag time and announcements, a joke and the 50/50 drawing. Marlene Garrett and Tracey Wade were the winners.
After adjournment, members enjoyed playing bingo.
Winners for the evening were Ruth White, Gary White, Carol Rogers, Jerry Cornish, Mary Ann Landerfield, Gloria Boley, Joyce Gribben, Betty Mossor, Alice DeFrank and Bea Lytle.
The next meeting will be held Friday at the Karaffa Recreation Center.
