Lions Club discusses Christmas parade, tree decor and donation
NEW CUMBERLAND — The New Cumberland Lions Club began its October meeting with President Pam Stiles calling the meeting to order. Dorothy Hawkes followed with a prayer and Alan Lee led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
The district governor’s meeting minutes were read and dispensed with, followed by Lee providing the treasurer’s report, which will be filed for audit. Stiles provided a summary of the club’s walk-a-thon, noting there were 10 walkers who participated this year. Donations were collected for the West Virginia Lions SCF.
Lee discussed the Lion’s Halloween party, which was to take place at the New Cumberland C-House.
Stiles deferred discussion of the club by-laws until the club’s next board meeting. No board meeting will be held until January, it was noted.
Lee discussed what the impact will be on the club if in the future the city building is sold. The club can store and display its items in the Swaney Memorial Library, it was stated.
Stiles reminded those in attendance about the city’s Christmas parade, scheduled for 5 p.m. Dec. 9. The parade will begin toward the end of the 1000 block of Second Avenue and will end at the old city building. “Our club will provide hot chocolate,” she said. Lee asked John Ashcraft and Warren Wright for the use of their coffee dispensers for the event.
Stiles discussed the holiday’s shoe box donation, providing fliers to those interested. Members are to bring in a filled shoe box for children at Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting.
Lee informed members its pulled-pork provider, Hales of High Street will be going out of business and the club will need to find another supplier in time to support the next event, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
Jeanne Cox will coordinate the Christmas tree decorating at the Swaney Memorial Library.
Lee stated he will confirm the library plans to continue the annual event. Cox was approached by a person requesting help with hearing aids. She was informed hearing aids are not an “activity our club supports.”
