Retired school employees collecting items for those in need

WEIRTON -- The Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees met Oct. 17 at the Garden Grill in Weirton, with President Debra Marino calling the meeting to order. There were 47 members in attendance.

Marino introduced speaker, Dan Enich, superintendent of Hancock County Schools. Enich spoke on his educational background and his expectations for the school system.

Marino thanked new members, attendees and meeting organizers. Secretary Liz Pugh read the September minutes and Acting Treasurer Marino provided the financial report.

Community Service Chairman Mishel Robinson thanked those who brought in non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the community Bread Basket. Robinson reminded members of the November Stocking Stuffers project for the Salvation Army and for continuation of compiled volunteer hours. Membership Chairman Rita Orler related the new membership tally at 150 members.

It was announced the optical and dental company options would be discussed at the upcoming meeting.

Chairman Rosalie LeBec announced Nancy Wetzel was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. Robinson and LeBec presented door prizes to Kathy Bowmen, Penny Lahr, Ginger Green, Chris Snyder, JoAnn Kerr, Sherry Emery, Patty Burgess, Loretta Fisher, Anna May Matey, Orler, Michelle Ticich, LeBec, Melanie Donofe and Loretta Fisher.

The next meeting will be held at noon on Nov. 14 at the Hancock County Senior Center in New Cumberland. The Oak Glen Middle School chorus will provide the entertainment.
