TORONTO -- The Karaffa Recreation Center was the site of the Oct. 27 meeting of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors. President Barbara Pritts welcomed members and guest Ethel Stevens to the special event.
Thanks to Pritts and Sandi Radvansky, a Halloween-themed hors d'oeuvre table featuring a chocolate fountain allowed guests to mingle and enjoy treats prior to dinner.
Following the meal, the group applauded the efforts of the kitchen committee comprised of Alex Anderson, Beverly Anderson, Judy Whyte, Elaine Briceland and Nancy Bodrog.
The meeting began with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a reading of the minutes by Secretary Laura Sheets.
Treasurer Judy Sabol provided the financial report, which was approved and filed for audit.
Marlene Garrett, social secretary, announced the October birthdays, noted the three members who are being remembered under the health report and announced the November kitchen committee is made up of Dave Naukam, Darlene Naukam, Gloria Boley and Jerry Cornish.
Pritts announced the club's trip to Amish country has been filled and the bus will leave the Toronto High School stadium parking lot at 1 p.m. Friday, returning around 11 p.m.
Louie Nelson was recognized as member of the month.
Keeping with the Halloween theme, members donned their face coverings for a mask competition.
Dorothy Pavelka was recognized for most beautiful mask, Frank Marino was announced as the winner of the ugliest mask, and Marlene Garrett was judged for the most creative mask.
Halloween riddles were answered by Marsha McConnell and Dave DeVore.
All five winners were presented with small gifts and free bingo cards for the evening.
Winners of the 50/50 drawing were Joe Radvansky and Marino.
Following brag time and a closing joke, the meeting adjourned.
Members then enjoyed playing bingo.
Winners for the evening were Hank Sheets, Bea Lytle, Phyllis Smith, Joyce Gribben, Cornish, Nelson, Brenda Fetty, Marino, McConnell, Boley, Don Pritts, DeVore, Alice DeFrank, Garrett and Stevens.
Members held their Thanksgiving meeting Friday, as there will not be a meeting Nov. 24 due to the holiday.
Those attending were treated to roast turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing, with members bringing side dishes to share.
Club officials explained those members who brought a non-perishable food item in to be donated to the Helping Hands food pantry received a free 50/50 drawing ticket.
