Robert Alvis, left, of Adams Street, was the recipient of the Yard of the Month award, during the September contest for the city of New Cumberland. Mayor Will White was on hand to congratulate Alvis. Since moving to the area two years ago, he has made several improvements to his yard by adding a wooden fence and building a stone wall to showcase his flowers. He said he likes living in New Cumberland and loves working in his yard. He is building an indoor greenhouse so he can take cuttings from flowers and grow them throughout winter for next summer's garden. To recognize his beautification efforts, Alvis was presented with a framed certificate, a check and yard sign. The Yard of the Month Award is a joint effort between the city of New Cumberland and New Cumberland volunteers. This was the final award for the year, officials stated. The committee congratulated everyone who won this year. Judging will resume in May.
