WEIRTON -- Members of the Tri-State Marine Corps Club auxiliary held their monthly meeting Monday, with President Shirley Brecht presiding.
Chaplain Mary Ann Smith gave the invocation and Secretary Marcy Spano announced the names of those who are members and their families in need of prayers.
Spano stated she sent get-well cards to a club member's wife and to two auxiliary members.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Brecht.
Vice President Darlene Kemp did the roll call, which was followed by Spano reading the minutes of the November meeting. Minutes were approved as read.
The treasurer's report was given by Brecht. The report was approved as read.
There will be an audit of the books in April by Spano and Brecht, it was noted.
The group's newest adopted veteran is Donald Raush from Mingo Junction. Raush's wife, Janice, is a member of the auxiliary.
Brecht and Spano will be taking stockings and lap blankets to Weirton Geriatric Center and present them to veterans for Christmas. Birthday wishes were sent to two auxiliary members, along with those in attendance singing happy birthday.
Officials stated the birthday of the auxiliary is being celebrated this month. The auxiliary has been active for 32 years.
The winter months of January, February and March may see the need to cancel a meeting, should there be in climate weather, officials announced.
Auxiliary leaders stated members are prohibited to drive to meetings should roadways be unfavorable. The meeting will be canceled by either the president and secretary.
The auxiliary will be making valentines and Easter baskets for veterans at the Weirton Geriatric Center. The club's annual Christmas party will be celebrating this month "with good foods and good friends," officials said. "We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," Brecht stated.
She adjourned the meeting, reminding members the next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 8 at the VFW hall in Weirton.
