Knights of Columbus Weirton Council No. 3734, donated 24 coats to various schools throughout the area as part of the supreme council's Coats for Kids program. Local councils throughout the country donated more than one million coats on Nov. 6. Those at the Weirton council stated they have donated more than 100 coats to the cause in recent years. This year, the contributions raised has been given to those at New Manchester Elementary School, St. Paul Grade School, St. Joseph Grade School and Madonna High School. Many of the coats were distributed by Cole Canterbury, a junior at Madonna, who has taken on this special project of collecting and distributing coats to area children in an effort to keep them warm this winter.
