Sycamore play set for tonight
STEUBENVILLE -- "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," will be performed at 8:30 p.m. today at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St. The Sycamore drama class students have been practicing since early October and are excited to put on this performance, according to Bobbyjon Bauman, president of the Ohio Valley Youth Network.
The play is under the direction of Asher Breuninger.
"I have been watching the rehearsals and it is awesome," Bauman said. "It will be a great event for the entire family and is free of charge."
Christmas party for veterans
STEUBENVILLE -- The American Legion and its auxiliary unit will host its first Christmas party since the COVID pandemic, according to officials.
The disabled veterans reside in nine local nursing homes and will gather for the party at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Post 33 building, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
Veterans will be entertained by a ukulele group, along with 50 children from Wells Academy in the Steubenville City School District.
They will be served a luncheon and each will receive a bag of gifts, officials said.
Role-playing game class
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will host Dungeons & Dragons classes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday.
Game Masters Daniel Melching and David Nixon will offer instruction and bring all materials needed.

Breakfast with Santa
STEUBENVILLE -- Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 3419 state Route 213, will be holding its annual Breakfast with Santa event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 9. Guests will have the opportunity to eat breakfast with the jolly old soul, have their picture taken with him and decorate Christmas cookies.
In preparation for the holiday, children will make reindeer food and a Christmas craft.
There is no charge to take part in the activity. Donations will be accepted.
Area residents are invited to take part in the event, church officials noted.

Church to hold live nativity
STEUBENVILLE -- Starkdale Presbyterian Church, located at 4600 Sunset Blvd., will hold its 12th-annual live nativity in half-hour increments beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing through 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the church. The event is free of charge.

Retired school employees to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Association of Retired School Employees will meet at noon on Dec. 12 at the Brooke County Library. The program will be a Christmas sing-a-long.
