Richmond parade set for Saturday
RICHMOND -- Richmond's second-annual village Christmas parade will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Participants will line up at Hardy Field on Park Street at 4:30 p.m. and continue through town, ending at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home. There will be pre-parade festivities from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Commons Gazebo on Main Street near Richmond Methodist Church. Among the activities are a toy vendor and T-shirt vendor; free bags and glow sticks for children to collect candy during the parade; free hot chocolate, cookies and hot dogs; and pictures taken with the Grinch.
The Richmond Methodist Church fellowship hall will be the site where children can do free crafts from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Festival in the Woods will host pictures with Santa. Hay rides for children will be available after the parade at the shelter house at Richmond Park.
Festival in the Woods is continuing its Christmas Magic lighting attraction throughout the park on Fridays and Saturdays. This will include vendors in the new shelter house. For parade information, contact Donna Corder at (740) 275-1948.
Church to hold Christmas concert
TORONTO -- A Christmas concert to benefit the Salvation Army will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Toronto First Methodist Church, located at 518 Main St.
Performances will include the Toronto First Methodist choir, Presbyterian Church choir, Baptist Church choir, Friends quartet, Jim Ray, Connie Brooks, Thomas Graham, Tammy Spicer and Jessica George Kogut. The community is invited to join in the church's celebration.
Role-playing club offered
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library hosts a Dungeons and Dragons club for students in grades 5-12 who are interested in role-playing games. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday in the library's River Room.

Library offering e-mail alerts
WELLSBURG -- Brooke County Public Libraries are excited to offer patrons free Wowbrary e-mail alerts that showcase their newest arrivals each week.
The alerts feature the latest bestsellers and other books, movies, music, audio books, children's titles, cookbooks and other items purchased by the library.
"This is a great new way to enjoy and use your public library more," said Alexandra Schneider, director of Brooke County Public Libraries.
"People are truly amazed when they see in one place just how many great new titles we purchase each week, which they can reserve and borrow at no cost. And we cover all age groups and many diverse interests."
Schneider said the alerts are a convenient and quick way to see from home what's new and whether an item has been checked out or not at either the Wellsburg or Follansbee location.
Kim Harless, the libraries' director of educational programs, said, "It only takes a mouse click to see the newest arrivals appropriate for your child or teen. There are separate sections and handy links for finding more items you may find interesting."

Book club to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library Book Club will meet in person and virtually at 5 p.m. Jan. 25 to discuss two books, Michael Faber's "The Book of Strange Things" and local native Jay Alan Meyers' "The Decipherment of Niawt."
Participants will receive the book they will discuss in February.

Water assistance program continues
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio Department of Development and The Jefferson County Community Action Council is offering income-eligible Ohioans with water and wastewater assistance.
The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying water and wastewater bills. The program runs through March 31, or until funds are depleted.
To apply for the program, clients are required to contact the CAC. Clients need to bring copies of the following documents to their appointment:
• Copies of their most recent water/wastewater bills;
• A list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member;
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members; and
• Proof of disability (if applicable.)
