Dunbar Center to focus on MLK’s wife

WEIRTON -- Following the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March at 11 a.m. Monday, the Dunbar Recreation Center will present "An Interview with Coretta Scott King," during its noon luncheon.
Performed in the style of reader's theater, "An Interview with Coretta Scott King," shines the spotlight on the woman responsible for continuing her husband's legacy following his assassination on April 4, 1968, officials stated.
"Using Mrs. King's own words, the audience will have a unique opportunity to learn about Dr. King's spouse and partner, whose passion for social justice and reform was as fierce and focused as her famous husband's," stated Pete Fernbaugh, executive producer and head writer for Cloak and Dagger On the Air.
Starring Rosie McAllister as Coretta Scott King and Bethany Fernbaugh as the interviewer, this half-hour production is co-sponsored by the Dunbar Recreation Center and the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Company.
The walk will begin at Christ the King Church and conclude at the Dunbar Center. The presentation and luncheon will follow.
"This day is just a small part of the legacy Dr. King left behind and shows togetherness among all people," said Earlean Jones, president of the Dunbar Recreation Center.
"An Interview with Coretta Scott King," is free and open to the public, but donations to the center are greatly appreciated, organizers noted.
The Dunbar Recreation Center, located at 300 Kessel St. along Weir Avenue, was officially placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
