STEUBENVILLE -- This past holiday season, members of the Steubenville Art Association finished the year with a sale of local artists' original paintings.
Special thanks were given to the Fort Steuben Visitor's Center for working with the association to make these paintings available to tourists who visited the city during the holidays.
"It is good to know the talent of our artists will be viewed and appreciated by many people throughout several states as the paintings travel home with our visitors," stated SAA President Judy Schmidt.
Members are ready to start the new year with several workshops, which are not only available to those in the SAA, but to any artist and those thinking of becoming an artist.
"This year the SAA will join with the Top of West Virginia Arts Council to offer a variety of topics that are important to the visual arts community," Schmidt said.
Bob Watson, a member of the SAA and the Top of WV Arts Council, will give a mini watercolor workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at the Summit Art Gallery in Weirton. The cost is $35 and includes all the supplies needed.
This workshop will teach techniques that enhance one's watercolor still life and landscape paintings.
The public is invited to attend; however, the class is limited to 20 people. Officials noted interested participants should get their name added to the list as soon as possible.

The SAA's favorite pen and ink artist, Debra Kimball, will demonstrate how to make a picture tell a story with the use of a simple pen and ink. The class will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 21 at Eastern Gateway Community College.
"Her drawings are sure to make the viewer either smile or scratch their head wondering what happened next in the picture," Schmidt commented.
The cost is $20 per person. Send your registration and payment to the SAA address.
A workshop in which participants will use alcohol ink will be led by Laura Scheetz from noon to 3 p.m. March 2 at the Summit Art Gallery.
This will be a joint effort between the SAA and the Top of WV Arts Council. The cost is $35 and includes the materials needed.
"Once again, we encourage all local artists to get involved with the new things they can learn in the visual arts field," Schmidt concluded.
