Winter watercolor workshop

WEIRTON — Local artist Bob Watson will be instructing a watercolor workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at the Summit Art Gallery, located at 3539 Main St. In case of a weather cancellation, the class will take place Feb. 24.

Watson, a member of the Steubenville Art Association, will implement techniques in which to paint still-life and landscapes.

The first part of the workshop includes a warm-up and practice session aimed toward placing people in paintings.

The second portion will be producing a watercolor based on a subject provided by the artist and will have impressions of people in the painting.

Techniques entail methods for protecting white space, gouging, scraping and producing texture. Painting types will include those which are simple and quick, to a more detailed work.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants, 18 years of age and older.

The cost is a fixed rate of $35. Supplies will be provided, although attendees may bring their own brushes and other supplies and materials.

The workshop is a collaboration between the Summit Art Gallery and the Steubenville Art Association.

To register, call Gina Judy at (740) 765-4410 or (740) 282-7908 by 6 p.m. Feb. 16.

Checks should be made payable to the Steubenville Art Association and mailed to: Steubenville Art Association, P.O. Box 1061, Steubenville, OH 43952.

Watson is a retired architect with a lifelong desire to draw and paint. He is a signature member in the Georgia Watercolor Society and a member of the Top of W.Va. Arts Council, the Steubenville Art Association, the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and the West Virginia Watercolor Society.
