Benefit shoot to be held Saturday
GEORGETOWN, Pa. -- The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club will hold a benefit shoot fundraiser at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event is being held for local resident Diane Theiss, who is battling stage 4 cancer. Funds raised will help pay medical expenses and transportation costs. The event will include a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing.
Spring Turkey Shoot planned
GEORGETOWN, Pa. -- The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club, located on Gas Valley Road in New Cumberland, will hold a Spring Turkey Shoot each Sunday, officials announced. Sign-ups for all shoots begin at 9:30 a.m.
The cost is $3 per shot or $30 for nine shoots -- including the money shoot. The club will be paying first- and second-place finishers for the closest to the dot. There are new higher paybacks, as well, officials added. The kitchen will be open during the event.
Foster parent training
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Department of Job and Family Services, Children Services Division, will be offering foster care pre-placement classes for people interested in becoming foster or foster-to-adopt parents.
The classes will be held March 9, March 10, March 23 and March 24 at the Schiappa Memorial Library, located at 4141 Mall Drive. There is no cost to attend the training but pre-registration is required. To register, call Susan Young at (740) 282-0961 ext. 1225 or Tracey Dailey at ext. 1244.
Players invited to mah jongg
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library has added sessions of mah jongg to its many free activities. Mah jongg is a tile-based game popular in many parts of Asia.
There is a group which plays the game between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. every Friday. The group is welcoming new players for those interested in learning how to play. No registration is required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
Senior fitness classes offered
Brooke County Public Libraries in Follansbee and Wellsburg are offering Geri-Fit, a 45-minute strength-training class, for older adults.
Participants begin by lifting light weights while seated and can work at their own pace. Participants should bring a set of light dumbbells, a stretch band and a bottle of water.
The video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, located at 844 Main St. The classes are held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Wellsburg location, at 945 Main St. Those interested in participating in the free classes should register by calling (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.
Dungeons and Dragons class
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will hold Dungeons and Dragons classes for middle school and high school students from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday. The classes will be taught by Daniel Melching and David Nixon, who will bring everything needed for the game. Registration is not required. Special play offered for pre-schoolers
WELLSBURG -- Parents or guardians of children 6-years-old and under are invited to attend the Brooke County Public Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon every Saturday so children can use toys and games designed to promote hand-eye coordination. Children will receive a basic understanding of science, engineering, art and math concepts through these items.
Parents are encouraged to assist the children with the toys, which are set up and taken down by a volunteer. Organizers say parents and children receive the opportunity to socialize with other parents and children. No registration is required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
