Harrison Hill Spelling Bee finishers

Evan Johnson, a seventh-grader at Harrison Central Junior-Senior High School, placed first in the Harrison Hills City School District Spelling Bee held Jan. 18 at Harrison Central Junior-Senior High School. Johnson correctly spelled "thoroughbred," an adjective meaning bred from the best blood through a long line, to claim the win. Taking part in the awards ceremony were, from left, Ken Parker, principal at the school; Misty Mills, co-coordinator; Chloe Lan, a fifth-grader at Harrison Central Elementary, alternate; Kierra Chapman, a sixth-grader at Harrison Central Elementary, fifth; Bryce Sobleski, an eighth-grader a Harrison Central Junior-Senior High School, fourth; Davian Bell, a seventh-grader at Harrison Central Junior-Senior High School, third; Lucas Wood, a fifth-grader at Harrison Central Elementary School, second; Johnson; and Madison Taylor, co-coordinator. The top five spellers and alternate will advance to the Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee, Presented by the Herald-Star, at 11 a.m. March 9 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant.
