For more than 15 years, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau has been visiting the first baby born at Trinity Medical Center West during National Agriculture Week, celebrated this year from March 18-22. Waylon Kutys was born at 4:25 a.m. March 19. He weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 23 inches long. Parents Abby Arnett and Shane Kutys of Rayland were given gifts and recognized on this special occasion by Jeanne Roberts, Farm Bureau board member and chairman of the promotion and education committee. Roberts took time to make many of the gifts that were given to the new mother, including two blankets, a changing pad, diaper stacker, nursing bib and burping cloths which convert to a carrying tote. Store-bought items Roberts gave Arnett included a stuffed animal, socks and baby wipes. This initiave was started by Mary Ellen Grafton and taken over by Roberts in 2016.
