Holy Week at Two Ridges
WINTERSVILLE -- Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, located at 1085 Canton Road in Wintersville, has announced its activities for Holy Week.
For Maundy Thursday, a covered dish will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Meat, beverages and table service will be provided. Worship will take place in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m., along with the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
On Easter Sunday, a free breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Easter worship services will follow the meal at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Weirton First Christian Church events
WEIRTON -- Weirton First Christian Church will celebrate Holy Week with Maundy Thursday worship at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 3252 Main St. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Good Friday and an Easter morning worship will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday under the leadership of the Rev. Mark Mayer and music director Roberta Fedoush. All are welcome.
Spring art show accepting entries
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Art Association will hold its annual Spring Exhibit Art Show from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at Eastern Gateway Community College.
The SAA has presented this event for the past 77 years. Organizers stated the exhibits have been held every year of the club's existence with the exception of 2020-21 due to COVID.
President Judy Schmidt thanked all of artists who submitted work for the "Show Us Your Stuff" art show at the Visitor Center of Historic Fort Steuben this month. Schmidt expressed her appreciation to all of the new artists and the children who brought their "braggadocious" art pieces. The SAA has decided to make this an annual theme for its March downtown shows.
"Our spring exhibit is our professional art show," Schmidt said. "Art will be judged by a professional art judge. Standard awards such as Best of Show, Merit Awards and Honorable Mention will be given. We also will give special awards, usually sponsored by friends or family in memory of a loved one."
All artists are invited to submit their works. Entries must be brought to EGCC April 5-6. Each artist is limited to three submissions at the cost of $20-$25.
All work must be original and completed within the past two years. Any work can be priced for sale, of which the SAA will take a 20 percent commission. Any artist interested in entering a piece can get the full prospectus by e-mailing Schmidt at judyschmidt50@hotmail.com, download steubenvilleaa.com or check the Steubenville Art Association's Facebook page.
The public is invited to the opening ceremony. The awards ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. April 27. Refreshments will be served. The show will be available for public viewing from the grand opening through May 10 during regular college hours.
"Those who have been to our spring exhibit in the past, knows that this is an art show that must not be missed," Schmidt concluded. "Make sure to get your art in the show or come see what your talented friends and neighbors have done. You'll be glad you did."
Car cruise set for Memorial Day
HOOKSTOWN -- Hookstown Grange Memorial Day Car Cruise will be held from noon to 3 p.m. May 27 at the Hookstown Fairgrounds, located at 1198 state Route 168. Attendees are asked to come before 10:30 a.m. and watch a parade. The road will be closed for the parade between 10:30 a.m. and noon. Admission, parking and entries will be free. The car cruise will be open to all makes and models of vehicles. A 50/50 drawing will take place and food will be available. Proceeds raised will benefit the Hookstown Grange. Veterans breakfast set for Thursday
STEUBENVILLE -- Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. announced a veterans breakfast is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Corrections Center on state Route 7. Abdalla hopes as many area veterans as possible will attend. To RSVP, call (740) 283-8600. Abdalla asked to spread the word to veterans because of the late notice, officials said.
