Fidelis Gamma Chapter talks state convention

WEIRTON -- The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Organization for Women Educators met at Eat 'n Park Restaurant in Weirton on March 7.

President Diane Higgins presided over the meeting in which 14 members were in attendance.

Higgins welcomed members, after which Bonnie Queses gave the "thought for the day" with a reading in memory of Jerry DeFilippo, Fidelis Gamma member, who died Feb. 17.

A moment of silent prayer followed the reading. Each member then shared sacred memories of their beloved sister.

Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report. In preparation for the state convention at Oglebay Park in April, Allison purchased gift cards to be donated for the event.

Corresponding Secretary Susan Cullinan read cards that contained donations to Fidelis Gamma Chapter in memory of DeFilippo.

Alpha Delta Kappa Month will be spearheaded by Chairman Shirley Washam in 2025.

Altruistic Chairman Margo Polk gave a detailed report on monetary and non-monetary donations and member service hours.

Fraternity Education Chairman Janet Benzo presented a symbol activity for members to decipher.

Publicity Chairman Ruth Fuller presented newspaper articles to be used to prepare a display at the state convention.

Higgins presented information about the Alpha Delta Kappa state convention, scheduled to be held April 19-21 at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.

Registration forms were circulated.

Members are to bring items to the April meeting for the goody bags to be distributed at the state convention.

The nominating committee will meet today to create a slate of officers for the next biennium. Those on the committee are Allison, Fuller and Higgins.

Members will vote on the slate of officers in April, and the new officers will be installed at the May meeting.

Sisterly concerns were expressed.

Members were asked to bring the fronts of Christmas card to the next meeting to be donated to the math teacher at Oak Glen Middle School.

March birthdays were announced and included, Elaine Ferrari and Pat Accettolo.

April birthdays followed, and included members Susan Cullinan, Sandi Anderson and Fuller.

Hostesses for the meeting were Cullinan and Higgins.

April hostesses will be Polk and Donna Roman.

The meeting was adjourned with the singing of, "Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa."
