Special Connections to host Easter Egg Hunt

By Staff reports 2 min read

TEUBENVILLE -- Community members of all ages and abilities are invited to the second-annual Special Connections Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday.

Things get hopping at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Ministry Center, located at 200 Kragel Road in Richmond. Participants can spring into action and collect eggs during the inclusive outing. Coordinated by Special Connections, the collaboration between the Special Needs Parents Support in the Ohio Valley Facebook page, the Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Crossroads Christian Church, will include light snacks and photos with a certain holiday hare.

Representative Mindy Aleksiejczyk, who founded the online support group and is vice president of the JCBDD board, said the free community event was organized with individuals who have disabilities in mind. However, all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.

"This is the second one that Special Connections has done," Aleksiejczyk said. "We had about 50 kids last year and we had both kids and adults. It was really fun and everyone was very happy."

The hunt is customized for wheelchair users to make the event more inclusive. Aleksiejczyk stated residents from the Shaffer Plaza Apartments attended the inaugural activity, which also was held at the Richmond site. Special Connections provides other adaptive events including the December event, "An Evening with Santa."For information, e-mail specialconnections740@gmail.com.
