Toronto High School presents musical
TORONTO -- Toronto High School will present the musical "Footloose," based on the 1984 film, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults. Tickets can be picked up at the school between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. beginning today.
Evening story hour set
WELLSBURG -- Kim Harless will lead an evening story hour, based on "Over in the Forest," at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Brooke County Public Library.

Japanese cooking demonstration
WELLSBURG -- Manami Kawazoe, Japanese outreach coordinator for West Liberty University, will demonstrate how to make takoyaki, a popular Japanese street food, at noon Friday at the Brooke County Public Library. Space for the free program is limited, so reservations should be made by calling (304) 737-1551.
W.Va. High5Drive this month
WEIRTON -- On Monday, the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network kicked off its second year of a campaign to raise awareness and funding for the 21 Child Advocacy Centers across the state.
Throughout the month, High5Drive is asking individuals and businesses to give a "High 5" and donate $5 for each child that was served at a West Virginia CAC last year. During 2023, 4,879 children walked through the doors of a West Virginia CAC, following allegations of sexual abuse, physical abuse or neglect.
Comfort House Child Advocacy Center is partnering with local businesses, official campaign site partners that will display the hands representing the children served at the Comfort House. The community can visit a campaign site partner to get their #High5Drive handprint and share a message of encouragement for these children. Partnering businesses include, Rasicci and Company Hair Salon and Boutique, Weirton; Lyle's Auto, Follansbee; McCauslen Any Occasion Florist, Weirton; CHANGE Inc. administrative office, Weirton; CHANGE Inc. Family Medical Care, Weirton; and CHANGE Inc. Family Medical Care, Newell. The Comfort House saw 322 kids and has a campaign goal of $835. Donations can be made through the campaign website give.wvcan.org/comforthouse. All money raised will go to support the Comfort House.
Book club to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library's book club will meet in person and virtually to discuss Colson Whitehead's "The Underground Railroad," at 5 p.m. April 25. English garden tea scheduled
SCIO -- Members of the Jefferson and Harrison Master Gardener Volunteer program will hold an English garden tea from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 on the lower level of the Scio Branch Library, located at 331 W. Main St. in Scio. Topics include designing English cottage gardens, garden art, attracting birds and teas from home-grown flowers and herbs. Participants will work on a make-and-take teacup craft. Door prizes will be awarded. The program is $30 per person and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Sponsors include B's Bouquets, Magnolia Manor Assisted Living, Woodsfield Savings Bank, Robin's Greenhouse, Michael Hauber and Barbara Dewey.

Baseball skills class offered
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Nazarene Church will host a free baseball skills class from 9 a.m. to noon April 27. The class will focus on fundamentals and making youth players confident in their playing. Classes will be taught by current and former coaches from the area, including Weirton and Burgettstown.

Class of '59 finalizes reunion plans
STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville High School's Class of 1959 chairman, Pete Barren, announced plans are complete for this year's reunion.
The reunion will take place at 5 p.m. May 4 at Scaffidi's Restaurant and Tavern. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by class pictures and dinner. The cost is $50 per person. Payment is to be made in cash. Attire will be casual. WEIR Building LEGO Club
WEIRTON -- The WEIR Building LEGO Club meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the downstairs activity room of the Mary H. Weir Library. The club's next meeting is scheduled to be held April 17. Children can build objects using LEGOs or Duplos. There is no specific age to join, although most participants are between the ages of 3 to 12.
