WEIRTON -- The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa's International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Eat 'n Park in Weirton April 4. Secretary Ruth Fuller presided over the meeting, welcoming the 13 members in attendance. She then lit the memory candle. Thoughts were sent for those unable to be present. The pledge was recited and a reading of "Prayer for America," was given by Treasurer Carolyn Allison. Hostesses for the meeting were Polk and Donna Roman.

Fuller and Chaplain Bonnie Queses conducted a memorial service for Jerry DeFilippo, who died Feb. 17. Fuller read a brief life history and a poem entitled "To My Sorority Sister," while Queses read the poem, "In Loving Memory of Our Wonderful Sister." Prior to dinner, a blessing and the strength prayer was said. Fuller read and filed the March minutes and Allison, the financial report. Corresponding Secretary Susan Cullinan read thank-you cards, including one from the family of DeFilippo. The other was from Karen Alexander, chairman of the Julia Kovack Memorial Project, who thanked the club for its memorial donation for DeFilippo. Altruistic Chairman Margo Polk provided a form to record monetary and non-monetary donations and members' service hours.

Scholarship Chairman Liz Pugh collected scholarship applications from students at Brooke and Madonna high schools. The remainder of the forms will be picked up Monday. Fuller, who serves as publicity chairman, thanked Pugh and Nancy Deters for collecting newspaper articles during the biennium to give to President Diane Higgins for the state convention. The hostess sign-up sheet was passed around for the 2024-26 biennium. Fuller reminded members about the Alpha Delta Kappa Convention at Wilson Lodge in Oglebay Park Friday through April 21. Special thanks were given to those who donated items for goody bags that will be distributed at the convention.

The slate of 2024-26 officers was presented and will be installed at the May 2 meeting at which Nancy Holdsworth will be hostess.
