MINGO JUNCTION -- The Indian Creek Foundation will hold the district's reverse drawing event April 12 at Mingo Junction's Knights of Columbus Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner starting at 7 p.m. A cash bar will be available. A drawing will be held following dinner. Tickets are $60 each. This includes dinner and a chance to participate in the $2,500 grand-prize drawing. Additional guests may attend on the ticket for $30 per person. Only 250 tickets were printed for the occasion. Ticketholders need not be present, but do forfeit their right to vote.
Indian Creek Superintendent T.C. Chappelear said proceeds benefit student programs and scholarships throughout the district.
"This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the foundation," Chappelear said. "It has allowed us to provide $15,000 for Indian Creek High School's hellbender program, as well as scholarships. This money goes right back to Indian Creek students to pay for activities, educational opportunities and scholarships."
The evening includes a Chinese auction and a variety of other prizes. The fundraiser, which has been held for almost 20 years, was hosted at the Knights of Columbus until the COVID pandemic led organizers to conduct a virtual event in 2020.
The Indian Creek Foundation was established in 2002 with the reverse drawing started four years later. Officials said roughly $100,000 has been awarded since its inception. The organization acts as the managing entity for other scholarships awarded on Senior Night, overseeing bequests and other contributions and working with local investment and accounting firms to remain solvent. Sponsorships are available for the drawing at a cost of $250. For information, contact Chappelear or assistant superintendent John Belt at (740) 264-3502. For tickets, contact any foundation member, school board member or Indian Creek administrator.
