WELLSBURG -- Winners of Brooke High School's annual Peep Show contest have been announced.
Students were challenged to create art from Peep marshmallow candies. The results included a variety of scenes from films, television shows, books, fantasy, history and everyday life.
This year's top finishers were Anneliese Schupbach, first place, a Whimsical Village in which multiple Peeps stand amid a handmade windmill and other olden-day structures; Lexie Rhodes, second place, a Rhodes Bakery where Peep bunnies serve up assorted pastries to customers; and Sam Mockbee, third place, an Ewok Village setting from "Return of the Jedi."
Honorable mention went to Deedra Groves for her Saxopeep, consisting of molded Peeps forming a saxophone and heart-shaped musical notes; Kasey Johnson for Pirates of the Peepabean, a scene inspired by "Pirates of the Caribbean;" and Bunnie Cline for "Hazpeep Hotel," a horror scene involving a skyscraper.
The Peep-les Choice Award was awarded to the student who received the most online votes for their creation. A total of 2,196 votes were cast. "The Last of the Peeps," which depicts a scene from the post-Apocalypse television show "The Last of Us," was the winner.
Art instructors Sara Walden Roark and Kelly Lumbatis announced the Brooke High School Student and Alumni Art Show will return from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 20 in the corridor next to the auditorium.
Winners will be named in the last hour of the show. Alumni may enter up to three entries.
Entries can be dropped off between April 15-18 during the school day.
