SAA Spring Exhibit, the show still goes on

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Art Association will hold its 78th-annual Spring Exhibit April 27 through May 11 at Eastern Gateway Community College.

More than 150 paintings from various local artists were submitted to officials at the exhibit between Friday and Saturday.

The public can view all of the art selections during the hours in which the college is open on Mondays through Saturdays. The building is closed Sundays.

The opening ceremony will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at the college.

The presentation of awards will begin at 2 p.m., officials stated.

Winning art pieces were selected by professional art judges from the Butler Museum in Youngstown Steubenville Art Association officials explained.

Awards will include the Best of Show and several merit awards will be presented, as well as honorable mention awards.

Special awards to be announced during the ceremony include “In honor of …” and “In memory of …” Recipients are Dale Biesecker, Virginia Price and James Kaufman.

The SAA will be presenting a scholarship to a graduating student who plans to pursue further studies in the field of visual arts.

The public is invited to attend the opening ceremony free of charge. Activities will include viewing submitted artwork, honoring winning artists, enjoying refreshments and socializing.
