Saturday auditions for Brooke Hills Playhouse

WELLSBURG -- Brooke Hills Playhouse will hold auditions for the first three shows of its summer season on Saturday at the Brooke Hills Park Clubhouse. Auditions will begin at 10 a.m. for "The Kitchen Witches," a comedy requiring two women and two men between the ages of 20 to 50. The plot revolves around Dolly and Isobel, two cooks who appear on the same television show but can't stand each other. The cast includes Stephen, Dolly's son and the show's producer; and Rob, the cameraman. Directed by Chelsey Barnhart, the show will be presented May 24-26 and May 31-June 2.

At 11 a.m., there will be auditions for "Don't Dress for Dinner," a romantic comedy that requires three women and three men, also in the age range of 20 to 50. Set in a charming French farmhouse, it involves Bernard, his chic Parisian mistress, his wife, Jacqueline; and his friend, Robert; among others. Directed by Nicole Welch and Carrie Cronin, it will be presented June 15-16 and 21-23. Those auditioning for the first two shows will be asked to do a cold reading from the scripts.

Auditions will begin at noon for Roald Dahl's "Matilda the Musical," which requires 21 perfomers, including Matilda Wormwood, a girl of 10 or under, Agatha Trunchbull, a tyrannical headmistress, age 35-55; Miss Honey, a teacher aged 25 to 40; Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, Matilda's uncaring parents, age 35-45; Michael, her brother, age 10-15; Bruce, a classmate, age 7-14; Lavender, a female friend, age 7-10; Mrs. Phelps, a kind librarian, age 25-45; two characters from Matilda's imagination, including the male escapologist and the female acrobat; Rudolfo, Mrs. Wormwood's ballroom dance partner; Mrs. Wormwood's male doctor; and a male children's party entertainer. There are small roles for henchmen, children and parents. Director Emily Hores asks all auditioners to bring recorded music for a song they will sing. The show will be presented July 5-7 and 12-14.
