MINGO JUNCTION -- The St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club met March 19. Sister Sarah Rose Dent, T.O.R. at Franciscan University of Steubenville and the program's guest speaker, began the evening with a prayer. President Theresa Madden then led in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.
A dinner was served by hostesses Dorothy Mazik, Debbie Riccardo, Janet Daley and Alda Jean McGuire. Once the meal was finished, those in attendance listened to a presentation given by Dent and T.O.R. Sister Miriam Callagham.
The business meeting began with a roll call of officers. All were present. There were 27 members in attendance. Madden waived the reading of minutes and the treasurer's report. Paula Diorio read correspondence, including a note from AIM Women's Center, which thanked the club for sponsoring a table at its gala and for the work members have done, including making a donation to help care for the mothers and babies at the center.
A letter was read from Aid to the Church in Need, an international Catholic pastoral aid organization offering financial support to projects worldwide. The letter thanked the club for its donation. A thank-you note from Magdalen Nelles thanked the group for everything it did to make the family's confirmation day extra special. Cards were read from Jackie and Cheryl Parks and Carrie Petrozzi for the thoughts, prayers and concern helping them through a difficult family situation.
Kathy Flippo recognized those who celebrated a birthday in February, including Jeannette Panebianco, Michele Fabbro, Theresa Kontra, Kathy Coldebella, Riccardo, Vicki Bish and Petrozzi. Those with March birthdays were Leanne Hutton, Janet Daley and Elaine Melko. It was noted Rose Walsh celebrated a birthday in January. A gift was presented to each and happy birthday was sung. Coldebella reported cards were sent to Rose Sacco, Gertie and Francie DiLoreto, Marty Connor and Mike Boka. A request was made to send cards to Joyce Whyte, Algida Wolpert and Sharon Larkins -- Rita Wigal's sister.
Madden thanked those who helped with funeral lunches and Joanne Raha and Rose Chappano for handling arrangements for the AIM gala. She announced the curator for the April door prize will be Petrozzi. Madden stated a pilgrimage to the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis is being organized through Wendt Touring. The event will be July 17-21. Fliers are available for those interested.
Mazik reported the possible dates when a strawberry get-together would be possible. Dates suggested were June 2 or June 9 to work in connection with coffee clatch. After some discussion, it was decided to wait until next year to hold the activity. Mariely Gessler expressed her interest in doing something special for the African priests who assist in the church's parishes. Ideas included holding a dinner two weeks after Easter. Those interested in helping included Mary See, Riccardo, Panebianco and Madden.
A committee is being organized to work on the reverend's 40th jubilee celebration on June 30. Volunteers were Michelle Dickey, Terri McGuire, Theresa Jurasko, Janet Daley, Ashlynne Daley, Riccardo, Pat Cramblett, Coldebella, Diorio, Walsh and Fabbro.
A luncheon for the First Communicants and their families will be held May 4, following rehearsal. Volunteers include McGuire, Dickey, Janet Daley, Walsh, Riccardo and Madden. The door prize curator was Diorio, with the prize being won by McGuire. Fabbro won the 50/50 drawing.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday. Hostesses will be Panebianco, Flippo and Fabbro. The meeting ended in prayer and a blessing given by the Rev. Jim Dunfee.
