St. Paul’s to hold second Steubenville Organ Series event
STEUBENVILLE — Pittsburgh organist Michael Kearney will hold a concert on the pipe organ at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located on Fourth and Adams streets. The event will be the second in the Steubenville Organ Series. The public is welcomed to attend this free concert. A reception follows in the parish hall. Street parking is available, with the entrance being on Adams Street.
Kearney is an organist, pianist and composer with a passion for the Psalms, set to music. A native of Long Island and graduate of Geneva College in Western Pennsylvania, he studied organ with Ann Labounsky of Duquesne University. He has composed and recorded a variety of choral and instrumental music based on the Psalms and is a member of the American Guild of Organists.
The Steubenville Organ Series has been instituted to showcase “the many impressive organs which are located in several historic church buildings throughout Steubenville.” The series will also showcase “these remarkable instruments and the sanctuary spaces in which they were designed to serve,” officials said.
St. Paul’s is Steubenville’s first church and has held regular services since 1796. The church offers Sunday Eucharist at 9:30 a.m. in which the public is welcome to attend. The Rev. Steven McKeown is celebrant and Wellsburg’s Eric Fithyan is organist. Visitors can enjoy St. Paul’s Sanctuary Garden and the church’s Thursday no-cost luncheon.
