Veterans breakfast

1 min read

Members of the Jefferson County Veterans Association, left, joined members of the Steubenville Vietnam Veterans Support Group, right, for a breakfast honoring veterans throughout the area March 28. Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. held the dinner at the Jefferson County Corrections Center. Among those attending the event were Barry Bardone, Abdalla and Joseph Maccariella. Approximately 30 veterans and several law enforcement officials were in attendance. Abdalla introduced a new county-wide program to have improved communication with individual veterans and veteran organizations. The program is supported by municipal police agencies. The initiative includes welfare checks, responding to veterans in crisis and participating in veteran programs. Abdalla stated, "We owe these men and women everything. We want to recognize them and share fellowship with them and support them. And it's a way to bring our communities' law enforcement and veterans together just for conversation and companionship." Abdalla said the breakfast will be held every two months, with the next one scheduled for 10 a.m. May 23 at the corrections center. Abdalla hopes more veterans will become aware of the event.
