Brooke Hills Playhouse comedy heats up

WELLSBURG -- Brooke Hills Playhouse will open its 53rd season with the story of a comic feud between two cooking show hosts who move from behind the scenes to in front of the camera.
Caroline Smith's "The Kitchen Witches," will be presented at 8 p.m. May 24-25, May 31 and June 1. Performances will take place at 2 p.m. on May 26 and June 2. All shows are held at the playhouse, located at Brooke Hills Park off state Route 27.
The play is the first of several to be presented this season. It is sponsored by Municipal Mutual Insurance Co., Reasner Funeral Home and Innovative Lab Services.
The focus will be on Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle. The two cable-access, cooking-show hostesses have hated each other for 30 years -- ever since one married the other's boyfriend, Stephen.
When the two find themselves together on a show, the insults fly faster than the food.
Directed by Chelsey Barnhart, the cast includes Heather Deerfield of Weirton as Dollie, Keri Everhart of Weirton as Isobel, Matthew Kolb as Stephen and Chastity Stevey of Wellsburg as Robbie, the camera operator.
Tickets are $10 for children, $12 for students and senior citizens and $14 for adults.
Season passes are available for $42 for children, $50 for students and senior citizens; and $58 for adults.

Other performances for this season are: "Don't Dress for Dinner," June 14-16 and 21-23; Roald Dahl's "Matilda the Musical," July 5-7 and 12-14; a non-musical adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz," July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4; and "Rex's Exes," Aug. 16-18 and 23-25.
