Humane foundation part of yard sale
FOLLANSBEE -- The Hancock County Humane Foundation will participate in the Marland Heights Community Neighborhood Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
More than 50 locations will take part in the event. The foundation's location is 1400 Legion Road in Weirton, formerly the L.B. Millsop Primary School.
Humane foundation officials are inviting everyone to stop by and "Find that purr-fect treasure and help support the animals."
Anderson to lead church service
BLOOMINGDALE -- The Rev. Aimee Anderson will serve as guest preacher during the Mother's Day service at Shaffer Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Located at 1216 township Road 191 in Bloomingdale, the service will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Anderson is the presiding elder for the Columbus-Springfield-Xenia District within the Ohio South Ohio Annual Conference.
Prior to assuming this appointment, she served as pastor of the Historic Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Delaware, Ohio and executive pastor of the Historic St. Paul AME Church in Columbus.
Anderson possesses an esteemed academic background, having earned a bachelor of science degree in speech pathology and audiology from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, La.
Subsequently, she pursued a master of divinity degree from Methodist Theological Seminary in Delaware. She furthered her scholarly achievements by obtaining a doctor of ministry degree from Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio.
In addition to her ecclesiastical responsibilities, she is engaged in several prominent organizations, including the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the Columbus Chapter of the Links Inc. and Jack and Jill of America.
She serves as the founder and ministry leader of Sanctuary Selah, a nonprofit ministry dedicated to providing support to ministers and individuals in servant leadership positions.
Anderson upholds the role of president of the Port Columbus International Airport Inter-faith Service Board, demonstrating her commitment to inter-faith outreach.
She serves as a contingent chaplain at Nationwide Children's Hospital, dedicating her time to the well-being of those in need.
Her literary contributions have appeared in publications such as the AME Church Voice of Missions and the Ohio Laity Prayer Journal.
One notable publication is titled, "In Times Like These."
She was invited to share her spiritual insights as a guest preacher on the "Roland Martin Show," where she had the privilege of standing alongside Congresswoman Joyce Beatty during the "Souls to the Polls," virtual celebration.
Beyond her ecclesiastical and literary pursuits, Anderson finds joy in various personal interests.
When not preaching and facilitating workshops, she enjoys quality time spent with family.
Her interests extend to the appreciation of documentaries and movies, culinary pursuits, artistic crafting, traveling and hosting gatherings for both family and friends.
She is married to Derek Anderson, judge and secretary of the AME Church Judicial Council. She has two children, Cory and Kennedy.
Class of '67 to meet
WEIRTON -- The Weir High Class of 1967 will hold a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Basil's Sports Bar and Grill, located at 27 Marshalling Yard Drive in Weirton. All classmates and their spouses are welcome to attend.
Preschool/kindergarten registration
WINTERSVILLE -- The Indian Creek Local School District is asking parents of those planning to enter either preschool or kindergarten for the first time during the 2024-25 school year, to attend the registration and screening process,
Those who will attend Cross Creek Elementary School can register from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 and May 24. Pupils who will attend Hills Elementary School can be registered from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 23-24.
A birth certificate, proof of a Social Security number and immunization records are required for registration.
An income verification document is required for those entering preschool. Children who are between the ages of 3 and 5 prior to Aug. 1 are eligible to enroll, officials said.
Children who are 4 years of age will receive priority placement into the preschool program.
Pupils will not be secured placement until all necessary forms are completed and turned in.
Additional registration information can be obtained at either elementary school.
Current pupils do not need to register again.
