Author to visit center
NEW CUMBERLAND -- Former Chester resident and author Carol Hall will be at the Hancock County Senior Center at 1 p.m. Saturday. The center is located at 647 Gas Valley Road in New Cumberland.
Fourth-graders to visit Harding
STEUBENVILLE -- Fourth-graders will be able to see what middle-school life is like during the district's annual Bump Up Day at Harding Middle School on Tuesday. Students from East Garfield and Pugliese West elementary schools and McKinley STEM and Wells academies will participate in the field day activities Tuesday. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Social worker Shay Greiner said approximately 220 students are expected to attend. The children will have the opportunity to enjoy activities on the field and interact with current middle-school students and administrators.
"The fourth-graders will come up to Harding Middle School and they will meet the teachers and engage in fun activities," Greiner said. "The seventh-grade PBIS students will join them and there will be mixed groups. They will do field day activities and can get to know the middle-school students and ask them questions."
Events will include soccer, kickball, miniature games and a Minute-to-Win-It game. There will be band, orchestra and choir showcases. Students can meet with the principals for a question-and-answer session and lunch will be provided. Greiner stated Bump Up Day is a way to introduce fourth-graders to their new environment and learn what Harding has to offer. It gives them a chance to become acclimated prior to joining the ranks as fifth-graders in August.
Crochet club to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library's Crochet Club will meet at noon Wednesday. The group is for adults who are beginners through experts. Participants should bring their own supplies and projects. Someone will be available to offer assistance or instruction for those needing help.

Library to screen drama
FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Library will show the PG-rated film "Dreamin' Wild," at noon on May 17. The movie is based on a true story about the musical duo Donnie and Joe Emerson. Attendees can bring a lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Adena Memorial Day services
ADENA -- Adena will hold Memorial Day services beginning at 1:30 p.m. May 21 at West Elementary School. The American Legion Post 525 and Auxiliary Unit 525 will join pupils for the event. Parents, families and the public are encouraged to attend. Mark Smith, truancy specialist at Harrison Hills City Schools, will be the guest speaker.
The village's Memorial Day program will begin at 9 a.m. May 27 with a community Ecumenical memorial service at St. Casimir Church on Hanna Avenue. The area's fallen soldiers will be remembered with a "Roll Call of those Killed in Action" and "Poppy Presentation." Following the church service, a Memorial Day parade will line up on Hanna Avenue. It will begin at the Legion home. At the parade's conclusion, a service will take place at the Legion Memorial. Smith will once again serve as guest speaker. Members of the American Legion Post 525 hope all veterans, families and organizations will participate and remember those who died for this country in order for people to be free. Officials stated public participation at the services and parade would be appreciated.
Linoleum workshop rescheduled
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Art Association has announced the linoleum cutting workshop has been rescheduled. It will now take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 29 at Historic Fort Steuben. Those interested in attending need to register before May 20, officials stated.
