Creek club to visit Costa Rica

By Staff reports 2 min read

WINTERSVILLE -- Students at Indian Creek High School will be making their way out of the Ohio Valley to explore the exotic sites of Costa Rica next month.

More than a dozen Foreign Language Club students and two instructors will head to the small Central American nation from June 20-26.

Those participating in the trip will have the opportunity to view the country's scenery and learn about its culture.

Adviser Isabelle Heisler explained she and fellow educator Julie Robinson will join students on the sojourn through EF Tours of Wheeling.

Students preparing for the week-long vacation include Delaney Bates-Dallman, Shiloah Connell, Logan Ford, Rocco Galownia, Marshall Houser, Abigail Kopras, Allyson McGraw, Leah Parks, Lucianna Pietro, Destiny Ratkovec, Victoria Robertson, Kyle Shultz and Shelley Young.

"The students are in grades 10 through 12," Heisler stated. "We will be taking Costa Rica's Natural Wonders Tour. This will introduce them to the culture and expand their horizons."

Among the scheduled stops are a tour of a sustainability farm, a visit to the Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja to view one of its famous volcanoes and a trek to a wildlife refuge.

Additionally, the group will enjoy ziplining, snorkeling and a tour of a coffee farm.

There has already been some fundraising done in support of the trip. Students have sold popcorn and pasta to raise money toward their departure to Costa Rica.

Heisler noted students previously went on trips prior to COVID, which halted plans for a few years. However, organizers are picking up where others left off and opted to go somewhere new.

"We looked at tours and this was something completely different," she concluded. "We thought about staying closer post-COVID. We hope to go back to Europe in the future."
