Mother's Day event set
WEIRTON -- The First Christian Church Disciples Women's Fellowship will hold a Mother's Day event entitled "Hats Off to Mom," at 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the church.
The monologue will be presented by Connie Norwood.
The group's current service project is entitled "Helping Women." The project involves collecting items for the women at the Weirton Safe House.
Items being sought include towels, wash cloths, bath liquid and loofah sponges.
Monetary donations also will be accepted and should be given to Norwood by May 12.
Those interested in attending the Mother's Day event should RSVP to President Janet Rymer or Secretary Karen Blanc.
Weir drama club to perform
WEIRTON -- The Weir High Drama Club will be presenting the much-awaited "Slapdash! Quadruple 2" at 7 p.m. May 17 at the school, officials announced.
This evening of comedy improv is the eighth edition of the wildly-popular improv extravaganza, according to drama officials.
The electrifying show is helmed by Weir High's theater director Corey E. Miller, who sponsors the Drama Club and the International Thespians Troupe No. 1556.
Student stage manager Emma Underwood will co-host the event.
The cast consists of Weir students Logan Wagner, Max Bilodeau, Levi Anderson, Eve Swearingen, Channing Swearingen, Makenzie Stear and Gracie Beagle.
And forget the scripts.
This cast will create the entire show -- making it up right on the spot.
Often, the performers rely on suggestions from the audience to supply the characters, situations and settings for their scenes.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door the evening of the show or online through the school's website.
