Memorial Day service at Piney Fork
PINEY FORK -- The Piney Fork American Legion, Gwyn Allen Post 735, held its Memorial Day service last Monday. Those in attendance honored Gwyn Allen, a home member who lost his life while serving in World War II. Commander Tom McCain recited the eulogy for Allen. Corinne Rensi said the prayer and two members of the Sons of the American Legion raised the flag, beginning the ceremony. Richard Malone of Smithfield and John D. Sutherland of Piney Fork were recognized posthumously for 50 years in service. Patty Logsdon sang "My Buddy." There was a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.
Finley Church to hold VBS
STEUBENVILLE -- Finley Church, located on Lincoln Avenue, is inviting children between the ages of 5 to 12 to attend its Scuba Vacation Bible School. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through June 13. Scuba VBS will take participants "deep into an amazing undersea adventure where they will experience the ever-flowing, never-ending love of God." Field Day set in Smithfield
SMITHFIELD -- The Steubenville-Weirton Amateur Radio Club will hold its 2024 ARRL Field Day event from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 22 at shelters four and five at Friendship Park in Smithfield.
The public is invited to attend. Local amateur radio operators will set up antennas, radios and other communication equipment, and attempt to make as many contacts as possible from the field with other HAMS throughout the United States and Canada. VBS coming to Wellsburg
WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg First Church of God will hold a free, one-day Vacation Bible School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 22 at the Betty Carr Shelter at 18th Street Park.
