Hunt recognized
The Kiwanis Club of Weirton recognized Capt. Gene Hunt of the Weirton Salvation Army with the Distinguished Service Award for his continued service and dedication to the community. As a member of the Weirton Kiwanis, Hunt repeatedly endorsed projects that would benefit the children of the community, including the Mario Pipinos Head Start Program, the Weirton Christian Center and the Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network. After serving five years as the Weirton Corps officer, he intends to leave the area later this month and move to North Carolina. There, he will support another community and spend time with family. The Kiwanis Club thanked Hunt for representing the group’s mission, “Dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.” Club members recognizing Hunt included, from front, left, Miki Marino, Chappie Chapman, Lona Flowers, Angela Goettel, Capt. Gene Hunt, Duke Horstemeyer and Mary Kay Olashuk; and back, Deidre Edwards, John Hudson, Gary Mastromichalis, Michael Powell and Rik Rekowski. Mae Chapman also attended the event.
