STEUBENVILLE -- When a representative from Eastern Gateway Community College contacted the United Way of Jefferson County to inquire about its interest in taking over the college's annual community yard sale, officials at the nonprofit agency were thrilled to have been asked.
"A representative from EGCC contacted us and explained that it was important for them to choose a local nonprofit in Jefferson County to take over the event," explained Laura Rauch, executive director of the United Way. "We are honored to have been selected."
"After speaking to our board of directors, the answer was a quick 'yes,'" she exclaimed. "We are excited to serve the community with this exciting event. It is important for us to continue this tradition in Jefferson County. Not only are we providing the tools to ensure a great day for our vendors and community, but we are also being given an opportunity to spread awareness about the United Way of Jefferson County."
Its new title will be known as the United Way of Jefferson County Community Yard Sale and will take place Sept. 7. In the event of rain, a make-up date of Sept. 14 has been scheduled.
The event will still be held in the parking lot of Eastern Gateway, Rauch noted, adding this year's cost to rent a space will be $25. Registration begins today. Officials stated registration forms will no longer be mailed to past participants.
Instead, forms will be e-mailed to those who have provided an e-mail address in their past registration. The forms, along with payment, can be dropped off at the office or mailed to: The United Way of Jefferson County, 511 N. Fourth St., P.O. Box 1463, Steubenville, OH 43952.
For those interested in renting a space and who have not participated in past yard sales, call the United Way office at (740) 284-9000 for information.
