WEIRTON -- Four high school graduates from the Class of 2024 have each been awarded a $500 scholarship from Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union of Weirton.
Weir High School students Ava Altomare and Christian Long, along with Brooke High School's Devin Cipoletti and Alyssa Jezierski, were selected as this year's scholarship recipients, officials announced.
The field of applicants competing for the scholarships had their names placed into a drawing in order to determine which four would be awarded the assistance toward college.
Ian Stokes was named the alternate, officials commented.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have been an active credit union member for at least six months. The credit union serves public and parochial school employees, as well as students in Brooke and Hancock counties.
Altomare is the daughter of Alissa Altomare of Weirton. She is a Weir High graduate with the highest honors, officials noted. She will attend major in forensic science and law at Duquesne University and minor in pre-med.
Cipoletti is the son of Brad Cipoletti and Brittany Kusic of Wellsburg. He is a Brooke High graduate who will be attending Westminster College in the fall. Cipoletti will be majoring business administration and will play on the Westminster College Titan men's soccer team.
Long is the son of Stanton and Eydie Long of Weirton. He is a graduate of Weir High and was a four-year member of the Weir High basketball and baseball teams. He was a two-year member of the Weir High soccer and track teams. Long plans to attend West Virginia University and major in sports management.
Jezierski is the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Jezierski of Wellsburg. She graduated from Brooke High and plans to further her education at West Liberty University in the fall. She wants to pursue a pre-medical major. Jezierski said she will be joining the acro and tumbling team.
