CEOS present student scholarship

A SCHOLARSHIP FIRST — Volunteers with the Newview CEOS club awarded a $500 scholarship to Jillian Tetrault, the first scholarship recipient pursuing a trade. Tetrault plans to become an esthetician. NEW CUMBERLAND -- Volunteers with the Newview Community Educational Outreach Service club met July 3 at the Hancock County Senior Services Center. Following a light lunch provided by the center, members held their monthly business meeting. The secretary's report was dispensed with, as the secretary was unable to attend due to illness.

Nominations were held for 2025 officers; however, one person was nominated for each position, leaving the election to be a forgone conclusion next month.

President will be Virginia Lawrence; Sue Isner, vice president; Vicky Cunningham, secretary; and Becky Wiegers, treasurer. Officers will take office Jan. 1.

During the meeting, Jillian Tetrault, winner of the club's 2024 scholarship, was presented with a certificate and check for $500. Tetrault is the first recipient who will pursue a trade, attending Morgantown Beauty College where she will train as an esthetician.

Reimbursement was made to Wendy Backus for expenses incurred when preparing for May's area meeting.

Members voted to purchase supplies for the vendor stand they will have at the Medieval Fair July 20.

The event will be held at the Hancock County Sports Complex on Gas Valley Road.

Club officials will be selling desserts in a bag -- portable versions of banana pudding, strawberry pretzel dessert and s'mores.

Plans were discussed for the club's annual picnic, scheduled to take place in August at Tomlinson Run State Park. The picnic will be a potluck, with everyone bringing a dish to share with others.

September's meeting will feature the West Virginia University Extension office's lesson "Take Me Home, Country Roads," presented by Dinah Carpenter. Kathy Johnson will lead attendees in making sun catchers.

Wiegers reported former club President Bonnie Ryan gifted the club a treasure trove of CEOS materials, pictures and mementos from prior club days. Plans are being made to get together and organize the items. Help is being sought from former members to identify some of the people in the photos.
