Rosemont Chapel to hold VBS
STEUBENVILLE -- Rosemont Chapel, located at 23 Williams Blvd., will hold Vacation Bible School July 22-26.
The classes are for those 6 years old through high school graduates.
Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 22-25, and begins at 5 p.m. on July 26.
This year's theme will be, "Win with Jesus."
Adult classes will be held during the same hours.
"Be a winner and come join us," organizers stated, adding one does not have to be a member of the chapel to attend any of the classes.
Tranto certified ABOM diplomate
WEIRTON -- Dr. Maria N. Tranto has been certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine and is one of the 44 ABOM diplomates throughout the state of West Virginia.
This type of physician undergoes rigorous training in obesity medicine and an extensive examination process in order to achieve the designation, she explained.
Serving the public and the field of obesity medicine, she maintains standards for assessment and credentialing physicians.
Certification as an ABOM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity affects more than 40 percent of American adults and increases the risks for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and musculoskeletal problems.
In 2013, obesity was officially recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association.
"I hope to advocate and educate about the widespread misconception pertaining to obesity and promote awareness of the condition as a multifactorial disease that tends to relapse," Tranto stated. "I hope that through behavioral and biological treatments, many more people can experience an improved quality of life, overall health and well-being."
She is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, completing her internal medicine residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Tranto is board certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine, and a board certified hospice medical director. She is employed by Personal Care Medical Associates and is medical director of the Meadows of Cadiz and for Capital Health Home Care in Wintersville.
Tranto is a physician with Weight Watchers clinic, serving as a clinician adviser for pharmacy operations.
