Local artist Gina Judy of Richmond served as an attending artist at the opening reception of the 43rd-annual Adirondacks National Exhibit of American Watercolors, held at the View in Old Forge, N.Y. on Aug. 2. Her title piece entitled "Weathering Storms," is a watermedia piece with the use of compressed charcoal and is on display through the show's run, which concludes Sept. 28. Ehibitions manager is Kelsey Lynn Mayo and Craig Anderson served as juror of awards. The event was open to all artists working in water-based media, including transparent and opaque watercolors, acrylics, casein, egg tempera, gouache and ink. This year's exhibition featured 68 works from artists across the nation, with the juror of selection being Dean Mitchell. Mitchell emphasized an important lesson to entrants, saying, "The selection process is daunting but rewarding for me, with so many diverse approaches and concepts submitted. This is a subjective opinion, and as you know, another juror might have selected a similar or totally different show. However, I believe most look at the fundamentals of both design and the handling of the medium. Then there's the process of elimination -- which is the most challenging part of the entire process -- because I know each artist has spent part of their life creating the work. Time that is both priceless and irretrievable. I want each of you to know that I appreciate your entry and trust in my observation as a fellow peer. However, do not become discouraged if your painting wasn't selected, but keep pushing to learn, and grow and challenge yourself. This is the true joy of it all."
