The Calmbacher family, who reside on Ridge Avenue in New Cumberland, were the winners of the monthly Yard of the Month contest, sponsored by the City of New Cumberland and New Cumberland volunteers. The Yard of the Month Award was presented by mayor Will White. The Calmbacher’s yard borders the post office parking lot and features a display of bright flowers along the side of the home. Containers of flowers are found on the family’s front porch and throughout their back yard. Lincoln, their 7-year-old grandson, is always a big help with any weeding or watering of the containers and flower beds, the Calmbachers said. As the winners for July, the family received a check, along with a framed certificate. Their yard will display the green Yard of the Month sign until a new winner is announced for August. The program is a joint effort and helps foster pride within the community through beautification.
