PERI to meet Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Public Employees Retirement Inc., Jefferson County Chapter, will hold a meeting at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Those wishing to attend will meet in the Fiesta Room of Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville.
Walk with a Doc at malls
STEUBENVILLE -- Trinity Health System will be hosting two Walk with a Doc events this month.
The programs scheduled for September will include a walk with family nurse practitioner Mara Van Fossen at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Fort Steuben Mall.
The second walk will be with nurse practitioner Michelle Skonecy at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville.
The purpose of the gatherings is to support Trinity Health System's ongoing goal of engaging with the community through fun, healthy and uplifting events.
The walking program is for anyone who is interested in taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle, organizers said.
Attendees will take a few moments to learn about a current health topic from a health care professional, and then will spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk, along with fun conversations and meeting new friends.
"It's a great way to get out, get active and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking," health officials with Trinity stated. "Everyone can walk at their own pace and distance."
The program was begun in Columbus in April 2005, by Dr. David Sabgir. It has now expanded throughout the world, organizers added.
There is no special gear required or any specific rules during the walks.

Bergholz Area Museum open Sunday
BERGHOLZ -- The Bergholz Area Museum will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The featured display will be a collection of vintage newspapers, according to museum officials.
Organizers are inviting the public to come in and enjoy browsing the various headlines from the past.
The museum's permanent collection includes items that are related to area schools, businesses, mines and organizations.
There is also a large collection of Springfield High School memorabilia for graduates to peruse, recalling past memories of their school days.
The museum is located at 268 Second St. in Bergholz, across from the town parking lot.
Admission is free.
Activities planned at sportsmen's club
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club will host a variety of events and activities, all of which are open to the public, officials commented.
A .22 pistol shoot with open sights has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 22. Adults are to shoot off hand at 20 yards, officials noted, adding that youth who are participating will be allowed to rest.
The cost to enter the shoot will be $20 for 10 rounds. Payback will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers.
A hunter education safety class will be taught for adults and those who are 10 years of age and older.
The class is free of charge and takes place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 and from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6.
Those taking the class must attend both classes, officials stated.
Students attending online can take the Oct. 6 class only, learning gun handling and taking the test. To register, visit register-ed.com.
Fall turkey shoots will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 6. Sign-ups will begin at 9:30 a.m. The cost will be $30 for 8 rounds and includes the money shoot.
Payback will be awarded to the first- and second-place finishers in the Cover the Dot target.
Factory guns and choke tubes no longer than 4 inches are permitted, as are scopes. Sleeved guns will not be permitted, officials said.
The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club will hold its gun show Oct. 19-20 at the Hancock County Senior center, located on Gas Valley Road, past Oak Glen High School.
There will be a buy, sell, trade exhibit, with tables being available for $25 each. This price includes both days of the event. There will be a $5 entry fee at the door, per day.
Concealed carry classification is being planned, officials said, adding the cost will be $75.
Those joining must bring a handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition. To be placed on the list, call (757) 288-4772.
All activities will be held at the club property with the exception of the gun show, organizers explained.
