Class to hold fundraiser during reunion
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1974 will hold its 50th class reunion Sept. 20. However, classmates decided this time, they would go a little farther and turn their icebreaker celebration, held a day prior to their reunion, into a fundraising event for the purpose of helping a fellow graduating alum.
According to Dave Giannamore, who graduated with the Class of ’74, the icebreaker will be open to the public, with doors opening at 8 p.m.
The band will consist of several local musicians who previously performed with various area bands. They will take to the stage in the hopes of raising money to form a scholarship fund for one graduating senior from their alma mater, Giannamore said.
He stated the band will play during the icebreaker from approximately 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville.
Band members will include: Former SHS band member Rich Wagner on drums, percussion and vocals, part of local bands Matrix and K-Rex; former SHS band member Charlie Pavlik playing bass guitar, part of local bands Matrix and K-Rex; Bob Scurti on guitar and vocals, part of local bands Matrix and Rubber Soul; and Giannamore, a former SHS band member on guitar, drums and vocals, part of local bands Ohio and Windjammer.
Other musicians will include Al Pavlik, SHS Class of ’70, on lead guitar, who played in a number of local bands, including the Undertakers; and J.R. Wright on keyboards and vocals.
The band has been rehearsing since mid-summer, as their schedules have allowed, Giannamore stated.
Any donation amount will be accepted at the door, with all money to be given to the Class of ’74 scholarship fund.
Those wanting to donate but who are not able to attend the event, can make a check payable to Steubenville High School and mail it to the school to the attention of Ted Gorman, 420 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, OH 43952. Note in the memo “Class of 74 Fund No. 428.”
“Everyone in the area is welcome to attend this event, so the band is asking for you all to please come out and help them help a young graduate from the valley continue their education,” Giannamore concluded.
A 50/50 drawing and silent auction will be held during the evening.
For information, leave a message with Giannamore by calling (614) 599-1374 or Wagner at (614) 309-5592.
