Democratic women to meet
WEIRTON -- The Hancock County Democratic Women met at B4 Burgers and Grill in Weirton, following a meeting of the executive committee.
In the absence of President Alesia Brogdon, Vice President Marianne Turkal called the meeting to order and Secretary Kathy Link read the Aug. 20 minutes. The treasurer's report was read and will be filed for audit.
It was announced the annual meeting is scheduled to be held Friday through Sunday in Charleston. Members reviewed the meeting list Brogdon submitted in her absence.
Due to a lack of time, Treasurer Dina Carnes made a motion to send a $50 check to the federation, rather than try to put together a West Virginia University basket. The motion passed. Carnes advised she will send the federation quilt tickets, along with the check. Members said Brogdon mentioned a donation be made to the hospitality room for the annual meeting; however, the group was unable to locate information in the packet she shared.
The Weirton Christmas Parade will be discussed during the group's next meeting, set for 5 p.m. today at the Democratic headquarters, located in the rear of 3401 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton. It will open at that time, officials added.
The meeting's agenda includes implementing a schedule for volunteers and to continue planning for the "Night at the Races" fundraiser. All Democratic women residing in Hancock County are invited to attend the meeting.

Senior center to hold dance
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St. in Weirton, will hold a dance from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The cost will be $5 to attend. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share with attendees. Officials noted favorite musical selections will be played by deejay Chris.
The center will be holding a combination bake sale, rummage sale and book and puzzle sale between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. The public is invited to attend either event, organizers said. For information, call (304) 748-3490.
Cheers 2024 coming to area Thursday
STEUBENVILLE -- Our Place and RSVP are uniting the older population through education, health awareness, socialization and volunteering. The agencies will hold its Cheers 2024 senior celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wood Park. A rain date of Friday has been planned.
The event will include informational tables, a catered lunch, games, bingo, door prizes and live music. Performing from noon to 2 p.m. will be Rich Grimm, followed by Ron Retzer from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Officials are inviting those throughout the community to attend this senior event, because "We are stronger together," they stated.
Soup and sandwich drive-through set
STEUBENVILLE -- Hill Top United Presbyterian Church, located at 110 county Road in Toronto, will hold its soup and sandwich drive-through event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
Located on county Road 46, the church's menu will consist of four different soups to select from and three different sandwich options.
A quart of soup will be $8 and sandwiches will be $5. Officials explained all one needs to do is drive up and place your order. The Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Historical Museum will be on site, holding a bake sale to raise money for its museum upgrades.
Bishop installation set for Friday
WHEELING -- A bishop installation service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wheeling University's Troy Theater, located at 316 Washington Ave. Bishop Theodore L. Brooks Sr., P.A.W. presiding bishop, chief consecrator and speaker, will be in attendance, along with bishop-elect Darrell W. Cummings as the diocesan bishop of the 64th Episcopal Diocese of the P.A.W. Eastern Care South Africa District Council.
A special missions luncheon will take place at noon Friday at Wheeling University, with guest missionaries to speak on, "Why Missions Matter."

Rosemont Chapel to hold fundraiser
STEUBENVILLE -- Rosemont Chapel, located on the corner of Williams Boulevard and Goulds Road in Steubenville, will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The menu will consist of spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread and a beverage. Adult meals will be $10. Children's meals for those 12 and younger will be $5.

Flea market and craft show set
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Shrine Club will present an open air flea market and craft show entitled, "Jump into Fall."
The event will take place Saturday at Alladinland, located at 6365 township Road 166 in Bloomingdale.
A pancake and sausage breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon. Hot dogs and chips will be served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Local crafters and vendors will be on site, with spaces still available for rent. Reserved indoor crafter and vendor tables will cost $35 to rent or $20 with making a donation toward the basket drawing, paid in advance, officials stated.
Outdoor open air flea market spaces will be $15 for a 12-by-12-foot frontage, paid the day of the event and on a first-come, first-served basis.
