TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met Aug. 23 at the Karaffa Recreation Complex. The meeting was called to order by President Barbara Pritts, after which Chaplain Gloria Boley gave the blessing. Members enjoyed a pizza party prior to the start of the meeting.
Following the meal, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited and those in attendance gave a round of applause to the kitchen committee, which consisted of Dale and Karen Martin and Mary Lou and Kenny Emery.
Secretary Laura Sheets read the minutes of the previous meeting and conducted the roll call of officers. Treasurer Judy Sabol provided the financial report, which was filed for audit.
Social Secretary Marlene Garrett announced those who had a birthday or anniversary during the month of August.
The health report revealed two individuals were in need of members' prayers and cards. Garrett then announced the September kitchen committee will include Gloria Boley, Jerry Cornish, Dave Trudick and Mary Ann Landerfield.
Pritts reminded the club of the Christmas dinner, which is scheduled for Dec. 6. She noted changes in the kitchen committee for the month of October, and reminded members their dues will be collected in October.
New officers will be elected for the 2024-26 period on Oct. 11. Anyone who is interested in running for an office should make Pritts aware of their interest in order for the ballot to be prepared correctly.
Vice president Sandi Radvansky stated she is organizing a trip to Amish country and the Ohio Star Theater to see "A Christmas Carol," on Dec. 3. The trip includes a buffet lunch at the Dutch Valley restaurant and a stop at a local store for shopping.

Cornish was recognized as the group's member of the month.
The activity for the evening was a game entitled "Name That Tune." Members were given the first few lines of a famous song from the 1950s and 1960s. They then had to name the tune and the person or group who sang the song.
The activity brought back a lot of great memories for those playing the game, officials stated. Brenda Fetty was named the winner.
Winners of the 50/50 drawing were Mary Lou Emery and Patty Losey.
Following the announcements and brag time, Pritts concluded the meeting with a joke.
Following adjournment, members enjoyed playing bingo. Winners included: Frank Marino, Dave DeVore, Ethyl Stevens, Ken Emery, Mary Murphy, Landerfield, Hank Sheets, Garrett, Phyllis Smith, Mary Ellen Marion and Don Pritts.
The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 13. Any Ohio resident who is 55 and older is welcome to attend the meetings.
