Elks to hold dumplings sale
WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Elks will be selling apple dumplings with ice cream and assorted toppings during the Wellsburg Applefest.
The sale will take place Friday through Sunday in front of the Elks Lodge, located on Charles Street.
The civic group will sell Coleman fish sandwiches, sloppy joes and other food inside the lodge throughout the weekend.
Patrons can dine in or order carryout.
There will be a drawing to win a tailgate package, which includes a grill, canopy, two chairs, a cooler and two insulated cups.
Chances for the drawing will be $10 each.
UMWA to meet
HOPEDALE — United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1304 will hold a regular meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hopedale American Legion, located at 48225 Rabbit Road in Hopedale.
Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m.
Praise and worship service, Sunday
BERGHOLZ — Some of the Ohio Valley’s most talented worship teams and leaders will meet in in a single venue for an evening of ecumenical worship and praise, organizers announced.
The community is invited to attend the free event being hosted by the Bergholz Faith Community Church.
The worship and praise service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, located at 1500 state Route 524 in Bergholz.
The line up will consist of Crossroads North River, Impact, Ichthys and Sycamore Tree praise and worship bands.
They will be joined by Faith Community Church worship leaders Jenna Porter and Scott Rowan; Blaze youth worship leaders Bella Thompson and Nadia DeNoon; local musicians; and vocalist Chelsea Matta, Roy and Marcia Johnson and Amanda Thompson.
The purpose of the event is to bring everyone together for one night of unity and worship, officials commented, saying, “This allows us all to fellowship with one another, serve the community and above all, Glorify our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.”
Starkdale to hold Hymn Fest
STEUBENVILLE — Starkdale Presbyterian Church, located at 4600 Sunset Blvd., will hold its 25th-annual Hymn Fest at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The public is invited to attend the special event.
A love offering will be taken during the service to support the Ramsey family of Richmond, according to church officials.
Refreshments will be served following the program.
Democratic women to meet
STEUBENVILLE — The next meeting of the Jefferson County Democratic Women will take place at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Democratic Headquarters, located at 182 N. Fourth St. in Steubenville.
All Democrats are welcome to attend the meeting, officials announced.
Idlewild to hold “Hallowboo!”
LIGONIER — Idlewild will usher in autumn with all-new ways to Halloween during the 20th season of its one-of-a-kind family-friendly fall festival, “Hallowboo!”
This year, the park will celebrate with more days than ever before, officials stated. “The Best Kids Park in the World” transforms into the “spookiest and silliest place in the Laurel Highlands,” with five new Halloween activities, including the enchanted Trick or Treat Trail through Story Book Forest, unique seasonal entertainment, Halloween-themed activities and much more.
Families are invited every weekend to attend meet-and-greets and shows with PBS Kids’ Daniel Tiger and his neighborhood friends Miss Elaina, O the Owl, Prince Wednesday and Katerina Kittycat.
Other fun fall activities include the Sasquatchanna Railroad, taking passengers on an adventure through the wild woods where Big Foot is said to roam with mysterious encounters and a festive spooky atmosphere; Grigsby’s Trunk of Giggles will explore the whimsical world of the mysterious Grisby; and Lil’ Foot’s Great Forest Adventure features a walk-through attraction that blends imaginative storytelling with interactive fun.
The Confusing Heel Museum’s Bigfoot’s Haunting Hoax is an offbeat museum dedicated to the humorous side of Bigfoot lore, featuring a range of amusing anecdotes, questionable photographs and strange artifacts related to legendary Bigfoot sightings in the region.
The Mystic Wilds Jungle Maze takes guests on a Halloween jungle twilight experience with an array of fun and frightful surprises where thrilling adventure meets the spooky season.
Steel City Ghostbusters will stand guard against the ghouls and goblins during the final weekend of “Hallowboo!”
“‘Hallowboo!’ offers everything from new Halloween-themed attractions, engaging and interactive entertainment and activities, seasonal food plus Idlewild’s signature rides,” said Tim Heger, Idlewild general manager.
“We are thrilled to invite guests to the beautiful Laurel Highlands for the longest ‘Hallowboo!’ yet, full of fall fun and all-new ways to Halloween for the whole family,” he added.
The season will include foam parties, Mad Science shows and more.
The event features dance parties, festive food and more than 30 popular Idlewild rides.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 27. For a limited time, daily admission tickets will be available for $24.99.
A season pass is available for the 2025 season.
